Knox Update - 2/14

Knox Update -
End of Week 2 and it’s been a long eventful week. Knox had his bone marrow aspiration and lumbar puncture on Monday, requiring him to be put to sleep. Tuesday was Tcell day and he received his Tcell infusion. After infusion, there’s a window of time (10 days or so) where reactions can happen. By Wednesday evening, Knox had developed a fever that progressed quickly. There are limits that when the fever gets high enough, he has to go to the hospital. So we arrived at the Emergency Department around 9:30pm. We checked into an inpatient room at about 1:15am. The first time Knox had this done last summer, he developed a fever about 5 days after, stayed in the hospital 3 nights, then had been long enough without a fever that he could go home (back to where we’re staying). This time, his fever came quickly and has been stronger and more persistent. The fever actually went away Thursday night and was gone all day Friday, but Friday night it came back strong and continued overnight, all day Saturday, and Saturday night. This fever would not subside with Tylenol, so he was pretty bad off and certainly caused more concern. Those minutes and hours go by so slowly when all he can do is lay there. As we woke up today, he finally had broken a sweat, his fever had broken temporarily, and though he’s still not feeling very good, he’s definitely a little better. His fever has come and gone today and is expected to still for a couple of days, but it’s not been as high and intense today.
Thankfully, the doctors are saying that while this is more of a reaction than they’d expect from a kid in his specific situation, it’s still considered within what’s normal, though more intense than last time. I want to paint a positive picture, but it was a long struggling day in the midst of a trying week. This time has been harder on everyone and now harder treatment-wise, but no complaints. We are thankful Knox is doing well overall.
Knox’s bone marrow and LP results show negative for Leukemia. We are so thankful to the LORD that he continues to be in remission. We continue to pray this Tcell treatment will be effective, last a long time, and get rid of any Leukemia left in his body. As I’ve said before, maybe the LORD has healed him already! Our hope is not in his health or healing, but in the LORD who has secured him and us through the cross and resurrection.
We are thankful for the nurses we’ve had and for those doctors and others working behind the scenes to monitor and take care of him. Please pray that we would be light of Christ to them in our behavior. Please pray that Knox’s fever would not get high again and that it would subside completely very soon (we are, however, thankful for signs that the Tcells are active!!) Please pray no other complications will creep in (infections, lung stuff from sitting so long, etc.). Keep praying that the Tcells will last a long time, he will be healed, and that we would use all of it as a means to proclaim Christ and His glory.
